Quick Overview

Ginseng is a globally used herb with an estimated 6 million plus users in United States only. Mostly consumed in the form of various supplements. Although, there are several verities of Ginseng available, Panax ginseng native to Korea and China, is considered best in terms of therapeutic value. The word “Panax” means to cure everything. Talking about the Korean Ginseng, the Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) is the most potent variety of them all. (Ref: 1) It is about 6 times more potent than its other counterparts.

Healthy Estrogen Levels & Hormonal Balance:

The use of Korean Red Ginseng can help regain vitality and youthfulness. It can provide relief to both menopausal and postmenopausal women. Conceivably, it can be quoted as an “Herb for life” for females, because of its effects on hormonal imbalance. Women can experience estrogen hormone deficiency regardless of their age, even in their teens and twenties. History of hormonal imbalance can worsen the severity of menopause symptoms. A serious decrease in estrogen-hormone takes place in postmenopausal women. (Ref: 4)

Plant estrogens (phytoestrogens) present in ginseng, act as replacement for estrogen hormone. Therefore, Korean Red Ginseng intake for hormonal imbalance can play a pivotal role in reducing daunting symptoms associated with it like weight gain, infertility, fatigue, depression, stress, bloating, water retention and lack of sexual desire. Furthermore, KRG’s main pharmacological components (like polyphenolic compounds, acidic polysaccharides, polyacetylenes and ginsenosides – a series of tetracyclic triterpenoid saponins) are also effective in reducing incidence of potential vaginal infections, hot flashes, vaginal dryness and decreased immunity during low levels of estrogen. (Ref: 5)

Rapid Weight Loss:

Faulty energy metabolism can result in obesity. A proper balance in energy metabolism can diminish chances of obesity permanently. (Ref: 6) Korean Red Ginseng can provide this vital balance. Ginsenosides (a main ingredient in KRG) acts at a molecular level to boost metabolism, limit fat tissue production and reduce abnormal food cravings. Eventually, the calories are burnt faster to initiate rapid weight loss. Ginsenosides can also stimulate increased production of hormones; adiponectin, insulin and leptin that are responsible for starch, fat and cholesterol metabolism. As a result, blood sugar level, cholesterol level and blood pressure are well maintained within their respective normal ranges. (Ref: 7)

Strong Nervous System & Stress Reduction:

KRG act as a powerful brain stimulant to sooth symptoms of stress, anxiety and mood disorders with solid anti-stress properties. It is also known to strengthen brain functionality and performance. Individuals suffering from stress and mood disorders should take 200mg and 400mg dosage for 8 days respectively. Ginseng (KR) shows indications of a possible natural treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and ADHD. Its oral administration accelerates brain alertness, increase concentration, and improve thinking and memory. A true cognitive tonic. (Ref: 8)

Anti-Diabetic, Anti-inflammatory & Anti-Cancer:

Clinical trials conducted by Risk Factor Modification Centre, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada” and Department of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada have suggested that KRG can boost immunity system and cell growth. Both these properties are crucial for patients suffering from anti-inflammatory disorders (like arthritis, osteoporosis) and diabetes. The herb can act as a strong anti-diabetic agent by having significant influence on glycemic and vascular health in type-2 diabetes’ patients. (Ref: 9)

Moreover, Ginseng’s cell-regenerative properties and its effects on cancer related functions like apoptosis, angiogenesis and oxidative-stress make it a natural anti-cancer remedy. (Ref: 10)

Increase Sexual Arousal & Physical Alertness:

KRG is rated high in Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) because of its positive effects on hormonal production. Moreover, it has anti-oxidative and anti-aging properties making it an ideal supplement for libido. Progesterone, testosterone and oestrogen are three main sex hormones in women. These hormones are responsible for sexual arousal, breast growth, physical alertness, vaginal mucous secretion and energy. Ginsenosides also mimic production of adrenocorticotrophic (ACTH) hormones to increase sexual arousal. (Ref: 11-12)

Skin Rejuvenation, Improved Complexion & Youthfulness:

In recent years, a wide range of skin and beauty products use processed Ginseng extract (KRG) as a main ingredient to revitalize and rejuvenate skin. Probably the most telling is that an increasing number of professional models are using Korean Red Ginseng in their hair and beauty products, models such as Sung-ryung Kim, Ga-in Han, and Naomi Campbell. KRG is rich in phytonutrients, which is considered as an essential stimulant to trigger both skin vitality and freshness. Korean Red Ginseng can also act as a perfect skin toner, facial freshener and skin refiner by accelerating collagen production. Increased collagen production means regeneration of skin-tissues and wrinkle-free younger skin.

Ginseng’s most potent form KRG can improve skin metabolism to successfully treat number of skin conditions. For example, dark circles, acne, rough skin, eczema and other similar skin conditions are treated by ameliorating skin metabolism. (Ref: 13)
