5 Exercises Perfect for Home or Outdoors

Getting proper exercise sessions in doesn’t necessarily mean that you always have to travel to a gym. Exercise #1: Push-up

1. Kneel on an exercise mat or floor and bring your feet together behind you. Gradually bend forward and place your palms flat on the mat, positioning your hands shoulder-width apart with your fingers facing forward.

2. Slowly lower your body towards the floor while maintaining a rigid torso and letting your elbows flare outward. Do not allow your low back to sag or your hips to hike upward during this downward movement. Continue to lower yourself until your chest touches the mat.

3. Press upwards through your arms while maintaining a rigid torso and keep your head aligned with your spine. For extra strength, concentrate on pushing the floor away from you. Continue pressing until the arms are only slightly bent at the elbows.

4. For increased difficulty, try placing your palms farther apart, or bringing them in and forming a diamond with your thumbs and index fingers.

 

Exercise #2: Squats

 

1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your back straight.

2. Gradually bend at your knees and lower your rear as if you were sitting down on a stool. Your weight should be evenly distributed on your feet.

3. When your thighs are almost parallel with the floor, power your body back up using your gluts and legs.

4. Add dumbbells once you can perform 10 reps with good form.

 Exercise #4: Bicycle Kicks

 

1. Lying on your back, fully extend your legs. Your entire body should be parallel to the ground.

Place your arms above your head or off to the side for added stability.

2.  Slowly bring your left leg toward your chest, bending at the knee as it comes to your chest. Bring it as close as it will go.

3. With your left leg up at your chest, bring your right leg toward the chest while at the same time, extending your left leg back to its straight position.

4. Do not allow your legs to touch the ground at the bottom. Instead, keep them 2-4 inches above the ground. Hold the lowered position for 1-2 seconds before alternating to your other leg.

 

Exercise #5: Sit-ups

 

1. Lie on your back with bent knees and your feet anchored to the mat. Tuck your chin into your chest and lengthen the back of your neck.

2. Interlace your fingers at the base of your skull and cross your arms with your hands on opposite shoulders. You can also place your palms down alongside your body for added stability.

3. Exhale as you lift your upper body up toward your knees.

4. Inhale as you lower your upper body back down to the mat.
